Dear Can I Still Get Circumcised Or You Can Only Do It When You're A Baby?,

My parents did not get me circumcised when I was a baby. If I decide I want to get circumcised, can I do that now or when I'm an adult? Or you can only get it done when you are a baby?

According to WebMD “circumcision can be done at any age. If you were not circumcised as a baby, you may choose to have it done later for personal or medical reasons. Your doctor may suggest circumcision later if:

  • You have repeated infections of the foreskin that do not get better with treatment.
  • You cannot pull the foreskin away from the tip of the penis.”

If at any point you would like to consider getting circumcised, TeenHealthFX recommends that you speak about it with your doctor. Your doctor can let you know if there are any medical reasons why it might not be a good idea to get a circumcision. Your doctor can also let you know what the procedure involves and what kind of recovery process you will go through so you can decide whether the procedure and recovery are worth the reasons you are interested in the circumcision to begin with.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
