Numbs at Penis Base

Published: July 01, 2014
Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am from the uk and I have numerous white numbs, about the size of a pen nib, at the base of my penis and on my scrotum, they also run up the sides of my penis to about 3/4 of the way up. I am nearly 16 and I have never had sex before, but I am sexually active with my girlfriend (who has also never been sexually active with another person either). I don't want to go to doctors if I can help it as i am very embarrassed and would feel very awkward. I'm not sure what it is but I have had them for about a year or so. Since I first became sexually active but as I said before I have never had penis to vagina contact and the furthest we have gotten is oral sex. Please help me

Dear Numbs at Penis Base,

We don’t want to get into what defines sexual activity but you should be aware that a Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) can be transmitted through oral sex

TeenHealthFX cannot give you a guaranteed diagnosis on the web. Even if a website was 90% successful making diagnoses on the web that would leave 10% who were misdiagnosed and that is unacceptable. The only way you can know for sure is to be examined by a doctor and completing any diagnostic measures. Being sexually active comes with a level of maturity and there really is no need to feel embarrassed or awkward. Most doctors understand that talking about sexual issues can be very difficult for some of their patients. Their training and experience in medicine goes a long way to putting their patient at ease. Your doctor is not there to judge you. You came to him/her with a problem and he/she are going to use the resources at their disposal to solve that problem. That is what they do. While there you should also talk about practicing safer sex and birth control options (it would be great if your girlfriend went with you.)

Make the appointment and you will be on your way to finding the answers you want.
