Bumps on Penis-Not From Sex

Published: September 29, 2015
Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hey I'm 18 and a african American, and often works out and often really sweaty if that helps. I have these very small bumps on my penis, even though I'm a virgin.

Dear Bumps on Penis-Not From Sex,

It is common to have pimples on all parts of your body. During adolescence, pimples are a normal part of life that comes and goes. The penis skin is sensitive and prone to different skin conditions. This includes eczema, irritation from rubbing and jock itch. Jock itch typically involves the creases of the groin and the scrotum. The area is usually red and sometimes shows a ring-shaped rash. Jock itch gets its name because it is common in people who sweat a lot such as athletes. It also is more likely to occur in people who are overweight. Jock itch is most often treated with an anti-fungal cream.

These pimples most likely are not serious. However, you should make an appointment to get the proper diagnosis and any prescription you may need. It is especially important to see your doctor if the pimples change color, size or gives you pain.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health in Morristown 973-971-6475 or the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health in Summit at 908-522-5757 for an appointment. Outside this area contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood.
