Is My Girlfriend Pregnant?

Published: September 21, 2017
Dear TeenHealthFX,
my girlfriend has been taking birth control pills for two weeks consistently now and today we had sex but i had no condom, i had a little precum but i managed to pullout in time and sort of let it "dry" and went back in and pulled out when i was about to cum. the question is if it's okay if i went in the second time with the "dry" precum will we be safe still?

Dear Is My Girlfriend Pregnant? ,

TeenHealthFX understands the anxiety you and your girlfriend may be experiencing at the moment.

Since semen was present on your penis when you re-entered your girlfriend’s vagina and you were not wearing a condom, there is a possibility that she could be pregnant. However, the only way to determine for certain is by having her conduct a pregnancy test. Your girlfriend can purchase this test from her local drug store and perform the test at home, or schedule an appointment with her doctor to have the test performed for a final, accurate result.

FX encourages all sexually active teens to always use condoms during sexual intercourse. Condoms are the only form of birth control that protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Thus, even though your girlfriend is currently taking the birth control pill, a condom should also be used for extra protection.

You may want to encourage your girlfriend to download the Planned Parenthood Spot On app, which will allow her to track both her period and any birth control method that affects it, including the pill.

TeenHealthFX invites you and your girlfriend to read the following resources:

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
