Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am 14 years old and I can't sit down due to a giant welt on my bootyhole. What should I do?

Dear Welt In Anus,

TeenHealthFX is sorry to hear that you are experiencing this discomfort. FX cannot conduct a proper diagnosis without examining the infection in person. Based on the description you have provided; you may be experiencing genital warts.

Genital warts are treatable infections that occur from having skin-to-skin contact with someone who’s infected, often during vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Genital warts are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). They can be passed from person to person through intimate sexual contact (touching someone's genitals or having vaginal, oral, or anal sex).

TeenHealthFX suggests scheduling an appointment with your doctor so he/she can exam the condition in person and conduct a proper diagnosis. It is important to schedule an appointment as soon as possible, so the infection does not grow in size, and so you can lower your risk of passing the infection to a partner. FX suggests that you do not attempt at-home treatment, and/or touch the infection with your hands until you’re able to meet with your doctor.

If you need to find a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
