Dear Do Many People Only Date For Sex?,
I would like you all to know that I find this website to be quite helpful. anyways, I have a question. I think it would be a very good decision to remain a virgin until marriage and that is what I plan to do. I am only 14 now but as I get older I worry I will have trouble with relationships. in movies and things it seems people mainly like dating another for sex. i fear that no one will date me if I do not want to have sex with them. is it true that many people seek dating only for sex?

Dear Do Many People Only Date For Sex?,

TeenHealthFX is very glad to hear that our website has been helpful for you and we appreciate the feedback!

As for your question about whether people seek out dating only for sex, FX would say the following: There are people out there who are mainly interested in connecting with other people for sex. But the fact is that if you meet one of those people, it’s hard to imagine you would be a good fit for one another. For one thing, the guy would probably not want to stay with someone who has your morals and values around sex if all he wants is sex. For another, FX can’t imagine you would want to be with the kind of person who is only interested in sex given your feelings and beliefs about it.

If waiting until marriage is right for you, then FX suggests you hold onto your belief and do what feels right for you. If a guy is not ok with waiting, then he is not the one for you anyways. The guy who really appreciates you for who you are as a person and what you have with one another will be ok about respecting how you feel. And as much as there are some guys out there who are only interested in sex, there are also guys out there who want more than just a physical relationship.

The most important thing here is for you not to compromise your beliefs because you think it is what other people will want or what will help you to fit in. Be true to yourself and you will definitely meet guys who will value and appreciate that about you!

And if you’re worried you’ll be the only one not having sex, keep in mind this information from Planned Parenthood:

The myth is that most teens have had vaginal intercourse. Surprise, surprise: most haven’t! The truth is that only about half of high school students have ever had intercourse and the average age when people start having sex is about age 17. Even once they start having sex, most teens don't have sex frequently. So it's "normal" to wait until you're older to have sex.
