Masturbation Practices Connected To Sexual Abuse?

Dear Masturbation Practices Connected To Sexual Abuse?,

I recently discovered that my 14 year old daughter has been inserting objects into her vagina during masterbation (electric tooth brush, small arasol can, part of a recorder). Is this "typical" teen behavior? She was abused by a boy when she 12-13, and is in therapy for depression as well as impulse control issues. Could this be connected to that, or could this be typical (?!?) teen exploration?

Dear Masturbation Practices Connected To Sexual Abuse?,

This is not typical sexual exploration for a teenager, and it certainly is possible that there is a connection between this behavior and the abuse that occurred. Since you know about this, TeenHealthFX recommends that you encourage your daughter to share this with her therapist so it can be addressed as part of her therapy.
