My Yeast Infection Symptoms Have Come Back After Treatment

Published: October 09, 2015
Dear My Yeast Infection Symptoms Have Come Back After Treatment,

I have gotten the yeast infection symptoms last week and it was itching so I went to the doctor's. The doctor say its most likely a yeast infection and gave me some cream to treat the area. After 3-4 days it healed and the itch got a lot better but these few days after I have stopped using the cream i find the vaginal area starting to itch again. yellowish discharge is found and there is a really stinky odour on it. I'm a teenager, this is my first yeast infection. Is this normal?

Dear My Yeast Infection Symptoms Have Come Back After Treatment,

If you are experiencing symptoms again then it most likely means the yeast infection was not fully treated. This can happen with many different medical situations and is not something to worry about. TeenHealthFX recommends that you call your doctor, tell him/her that you are still experiencing symptoms despite finishing the medication recommendations given to you, and find out if you need to come into the office for another appointment or if the doctor wants to prescribe you some other type of medication over the phone. Just follow up with your doctor  and you (and this situation) will be fine.

If sounds like you already have a doctor you are working with. However, if you ever need another referral and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
