Dear White Dots on My Penis,

TeenHealthFX cannot know exactly what these dots are based on the information provided. You did not indicate if you are sexually active. Genital warts can cause bumps on the penis, however, if you have never been sexually active, it would be unlikely for you to have any kind of sexually transmitted infection.

There are other possibilities including pearly penile papules, fordyce spots, or molluscum contagiosum to name a few. Pearly penile papules are normal and do not require treatment, fordyce spots are generally harmless and do not require treatment, and molluscum contagiosum is a viral infection that can spread to others or other parts of the body so it is best to speak with a doctor about how to treat the area and prevent transmission.

Since you are concerned about this and want to know exactly what these bumps are, FX recommends that you meet with your primary care physician or an adolescent medicine specialist. A doctor can examine the area and then give you an accurate diagnosis and let you know if any treatment is needed We do not recommend that you try to make a self-diagnosis or do anything to treat these bumps on your own as it could do more harm than good.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
