Dear Does Caffeine Stunt Your Growth?,

This has been a myth for quite some time! Caffeine does not stunt your growth. Harvard Health explains that drinking too much caffeine on a regular basis can eliminate the body’s ability to absorb calcium. Calcium is needed for bone growth and strength. As a result, when it comes to caffeine, specifically related to coffee consumption, most teenagers are at their adult height by the time they start drinking coffee or caffeine regularly and it will not make you shorter or stunt your growth.

Caffeine does have other side effects especially when you drink too much in a short amount of time. It is important to note that energy drinks are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration and it is very possible that the energy drink has way more caffeine than what is listed. Too much caffeine can cause insomnia, headaches, jitters (jumpiness), shakes, heartburn, and increase blood pressure.

It is important to keep in mind that your height has to do with family genetics as well as eating a balanced diet. Try to drink caffeine in moderation and to follow nutritional guidelines to be as tall as your genetics will let you.
