Can I Use Marijuana While Taking Concerta?
TeenHealthFX strongly believes that it is dangerous to combine recreational marijuana use with your Concerta XL prescription, and thus, suggests you do not smoke marijuana during your upcoming vacation.
To begin, mixing substances can cause harmful side effects, including yet not limited to: decreased breathing, confusion/loss of judgment, heart palpitations and strong anxiety. Additionally, people with ADHD may be more likely than the general population to develop alcohol and substance abuse problems. You can read more about the relationship between ADHD and substance abuse here.
Since you are currently prescribed Concerta XL, FX does not suggest that you stop taking this medication during your vacation. It is important to stick to the medical routine that your doctor has prescribed to you, in order for your body to remain routine and healthy. TeenHealthFX reminds you that there are a plethora of entertaining activities you will be able to engage in during your vacation, other than recreational drug use.
FX suggests meeting with your doctor before your vacation in order to discuss your medication, as well as any further questions you may have. If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
