Dear TeenHealthFX,
I broke my foot and the doctor wants me to take percs. Aren’t they dangerous? Why would a doctor tell me to take something like that?

Dear I Broke My Foot and Was Prescribed Percs. Aren’t They Dangerous?,

TeenHealthFX is sorry to hear about your foot. Unfortunately, we cannot diagnose or treat over the internet. The CDC explains that even though opioids, including Percocets can be dangerous and addicting, doctors prescribe it in severe pain situations. As you mention, since you broke your foot, it can be assumed that would result in a lot of pain.

If you are uncomfortable taking them or feel like your pain can be managed with a mild pain killer, we strongly recommend reaching out to the doctor who prescribed them and discuss best options available to you.  It is always important to be open and honest with your doctor.
