I Don't Care About School Anymore

Published: April 12, 2016
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I'm a sophomore in high school and I just don't care anymore.. I don't care if I pass my classes and show up on time. In middle school I was always on time and did my best. Now I don't have any motivation to work.. I sometimes just want to get up and walk out of class. I recently got a referral and didn't care one single bit. I don't know whats going on... I don't know if I seek help with depression or something..?

Dear I Don't Care About School Anymore,

TeenHealthFX would recommend that you schedule a consultation with a reputable mental health professional, such as a clinical social worker or clinical psychologist. It is certainly possible you are dealing with depression given that a lack of energy, lack of motivation or diminished interest in things are symptoms of depression. However, since TeenHealthFX cannot make any kind of accurate diagnoses over the web, it would be helpful for you to meet with a professional who can properly assess the situation and then make recommendations on how to address the issue.

If you live in northern New Jersey and need help finding a therapist you can call the Access Center from Atlantic Behavioral Health at 888-247-1400. Outside of this area you can log onto the US Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website for referrals in your area. You can also contact your insurance company to get a list of in-network mental health providers or check with your school social worker or psychologist to get a list of referrals in your area.
