I'm Feeling Pressure To Go To College

Published: October 15, 2019
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am a senior in high school and my parents have really been pressuring me about schools and the future and I am absolutely terrified. I haven't taken my SATs yet, I don't know what field I want to go into and they're already pushing me to start applying. Where do I start? This is all too much. I'm making myself sick over it.

Dear I'm Feeling Pressure To Go To College,

TeenHealthFX understands the stress you are going through right now. At one point or another we all faced the same difficult decisions on what to do with our futures. First, take a deep breath. A good place to start is to come up with a list of things that interest you. Then, research what jobs those interests may lead to. Not all jobs require a bachelor's degree and it is good to explore your options.

We suggest the you speak with your guidance counselor and find out when the next SAT test will be given. To get ready for the exam, you should consider taking an SAT class or at least get a test prep study guide. This will help you get ready for the exam, so you will be better prepared and hopefully not as anxious about taking it.

We recently did a Resource of the Month on Best Colleges and Universities that can help you look at the different colleges and what they offer. Another thing to remember is when you do apply to colleges, you do not need to decide right away what you want to study.  You can apply undecided and decide after you have taken a few classes.

There are many options at your fingertips and it is best to take it one step at a time. Good luck on your future endeavors!
