Experiencing Body Twitches

Published: June 06, 2018
Dear TeenHealthFX,

Since around midday yesterday ( it's june 6 2018 at the time I'm typing this) I've been getting these twitches. It started around my eyebrow and now i can feel it on my neck, legs, arms, eyelid, basically everywhere. The twitch isnt visibly noticeable nor painful but it's still very distracting and worrying. Does anyone know what is going on? Is it something to worry about? How do i stop the twitching

Dear Twitching,

Muscle twitches are caused by our muscles tightening up involuntarily. Causes of muscle twitching may include, yet are not limited to:

If you experience any of the following symptoms, TeenHealthFX suggests scheduling an appointment with your pediatrician.

  • You have a twitch that doesn't go away.
  • You notice weakness, tingling, or numbness in the area where you get muscle twitches.
  • It looks like the muscle is getting smaller.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
