Can I Get My Cast Wet?
I just got a cast this summer on my arm. It feels like the worst timing ever since it's the summer and all my friends go to the pool all the time. Can I get my cast wet? One of my friends says I can't.
Whether or not your cast can get wet depends on the type of case you have. According to the Mayo Clinic if you have a plaster cast over cloth wrapping, that kind of cast needs to stay dry. If you have a fiberglass cast lined with a water-repellent liner, it should be fine to get that type of cast wet. However, it is important to check with your doctor to make sure that you have a fiberglass cast and that your doctor is okay with your getting it wet. So speak to your doctor before diving into your local pool - don’t make the executive decision on your own about whether or not you can get your cast wet!
