Severe Pain From Gall Bladder Surgery

Published: June 01, 2015
Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi, I am a 16 year old girl; 3 weeks ago I had surgery to remove my gallbladder. I recovered fast and got sent home the next day. But I developed pain in my right middle back. This pain was so bad I went into the ER and was admitted for 3 days, my surgeon can’t figure out what is causing the pain. I've had CT scans and x-rays, and more tests that all come back negative. I'm taking hydrocodone and ketorolac for pain, which I've had refilled twice. Now the pain is spreading into my right shoulder, hip and bottom rib. The pain isn't going away or getting better and my doctor doesn't know what is causing it since inflammation should be gone by now and he promised the surgery went flawless. I get tired easily and I'm nauseous, I have hemorrhoids, and I twitch when the pain is bad. I was hoping you had any input or could give me idea of what is going on. I am going back to my doctor in a couple days but I just want to help figure out what's wrong.

Dear Severe Pain From Gall Bladder Surgery,

This is a question neither you nor TeenHealthFX can really answer. If you continue to search for answers on the internet, most likely you will find some scary scenarios. If your doctor is not able to identify the source of the pain, then it makes sense to consult with another surgeon. Finding the answer to your symptoms needs to be done directly, with medical professionals.
