Rash Goes Away with Water

Published: May 14, 2012
Dear TeenHealthFX,

For more than 3 years I have a white rash at the base of penis. It itches sometimes and also is a bit sensitive. But when I apply water the rash area goes away... what is it...

Dear Rash Goes Away with Water,

Unfortunately TeenHealthFX wouldn’t able to give you a precise answer over the internet. You would need to be examined by your pediatrician, family doctor or a dermatologist to determine if this is something that needs medical attention.

Chances are that if the rash disappears with water then it could be something in your environment that when comes in contact with your genitals that causes the rash. This could be hygiene products, laundry detergent, talcum powder or body spray. Try eliminating these products one at a time and see if you can identify what is contributing to the rash.

If the rash does not clear up, gets more sensitive or becomes painful then you should really see a doctor.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-6475 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
