Do I Rinse My Eyes After Using the Nebulizer?

Published: December 23, 2019
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I use nebulized albuterol and always rinse my eyes after a breathing treatment. Is that necessary? I know that eyes are somewhat self-cleaning but don't think that those can flush out a drug all by themselves. - Do I need to rinse my eyes after using my nebulizer?

Dear Do I Rinse My Eyes After Using the Nebulizer?,

You should avoid getting albuterol in your eyes as it may cause eye pain/irritation, temporary blurred vision, and other vision changes. Using a mouthpiece instead of a facemask or closing your eyes during a treatment will reduce exposure. TeenhealthFX suggests that you speak with your doctor about your questions and concerns. It is important to note that you should also rinse your mouth with water after each treatment to prevent dry mouth and throat irritation.

We hoped this information helped!
