Beyond the Sunscreen: Tips for Summer
When it comes to sun safety there is more to than just taking care of your skin (although still VERY important). You always need to take care of your eyes as well as stay hydrated.
Here are 5 tips to stay safe:
- Wear at least 30 SPF sunscreen and reapply! This included a lip balm with SPF. Yes, lips can get sunburn!
- Make sure to put sunscreen on your eyelids, ears, back of the neck.
- Wear 100% UV Ray protection sunglasses! Not all sunglasses are the same! Over a longer time, unprotected eyes can develop cataracts (clouding of the lens), permanent vision loss and skin cancers on eyelids and the surrounding areas.
- Avoid sodas and drinks with a lot of sugar
- Drink at least eight cups of water per day and more if you are playing outside or exercising. Failure to stay hydrated in the heat can cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke.
