Getting Back Into Routine

With a new school already here, TeenHealth FX hopes you have used the summer to make memories, relax, and mentally prepare for the next chapter of school.

Getting back into the routine of school can be difficult at first but keep reading to learn ways it can be easier!

  • Sometimes your body and brain need time to adjust to changes. Try going to sleep at a reasonable time and waking up at a reasonable time a week or two leading up to the first day.
    • School already started? It is never too late to fix your sleep schedule. Try avoiding naps during the day and using your phone before it is time to go to sleep so you can fall asleep earlier.
  • Get yourself excited by comparing schedules and lunches with friends. Maybe you have not seen some of them all summer and this could be a good time to check in!
  • Playing any sports in the fall? Preparing your body, your mental and emotional health for a new season is important. Getting your sleep, knowing everything your teachers are expecting of you, and eating right can be helpful.
    • Do you not play sports? That is okay! Get some friends together and make a list of fun things you can do now that the school year is starting. Some ideas are going to your school's football game, having study hang outs in new places, going dress shopping for homecoming, scheduling college tours together if you are juniors, etc.
  • Clean out your space! Decluttering your area can allow you to have a fresh start with this new school year. Designating an area in your house or room for studying can also be beneficial. It can help with mental clarity, feeling calmer and happier, it can help you feel more eager to do homework / study, and a clean space can help you be more productive.
  • Lastly, was last year a hard year for you? Find a trusted adult in your life you can go to when you are stressed or overwhelmed. Learn what makes you feel calm and make sure to prioritize that into your school routine.
    • Do you want better grades than last year? Look at what habits were making it harder for you to get those grades. You may need to study more, go to office hours, ask for help, do more practice questions? Good grades are possible!

A new year means new memories, new habits, new friends, and learning more! TeenHealth FX hopes this is a great school year for everyone reading! You can do anything you put your mind to, YOU ARE CAPABLE!
