Can I Take A Pregnancy Test One Week After Sex?
TeenHealth FX wants you to know that this is a great question! The most accurate pregnancy test results occur after your first missed period. This is because fertilization (when the sperm and egg meet) can take up to 6 days depending on the individual's body.
Please note, you can take a test as early as 10-14 days (about 2 weeks) after sex if you are experiencing pregnancy symptoms. Such as: missed period, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, frequent urination, tender breasts and / or back pain. Again, waiting after your first missed period or three weeks after sex would give you the most accurate pregnancy test. Remember, the first day of a female's menstrual cycle is considered day 1 of their hormonal cycle.
If you had unprotected sex and you do not want to become pregnant, you can take the morning-after pill, also known as emergency contraception. It is best used within 3 days after sex.
TeenHealth FX wants to remind everyone about the importance of condoms. Condoms are not only beneficial to prevent pregnancy but STDs(Sexually Transmitted Diseases), and they should be used during every sexual encounter!
