Can Psychedelics Help With My Depression?
TeenHealth FX knows this is something a lot of teens are confused about! For those who do not know, psychedelics is a drug that changes your mood, understanding of reality, changing / affecting all your senses, the way your brain operates and cause people to hallucinate (see or hear things that are not there). Some common names for psychedelics are acid, shrooms, ayahuasca, molly, ecstasy, etc.
To answer your question, psychedelics DO NOT help with depression, they can worsen it or bring up other mental health issues that you did not have before. That is because of the way it changes your brain operation and senses; some people never get out of the loop that the drug had them in.
The strength and the way the drug will affect you is extremely unpredictable, so TeenHealth FX advises you to not use the drug for your depression. If you are experiencing depression, we advise you to reach out to a trusted adult, guidance counselor, parent and / or your doctor. If you still have concerns and need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
