Dear I Think I Have a UTI, How Can I Relieve the Pain?,

Unfortunately, TeenHealth FX cannot diagnose over the internet. Based off the description of your pain, we highly recommend that you visit your primary doctor, or an urgent care to get prescribed medication to help relieve the pain and confirm that what you have is a UTI.

For those who do not know, a UTI is a urinary tract infection. It occurs when bacteria gets into any part of the urinary tract system, that includes the kidneys, uterus, bladder, urethra.

UTI symptoms include:

  • A strong urge to urinate,
  • A burning or painful feeling when urinating,
  • Urine may look cloudy,
  • Needing to pee suddenly,
  • Pee may have a strong odor

If it is a UTI, it is best to get it handled sooner than later! Antibiotics can usually treat UTIs.

If you need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
