Dear Which Friend Group Should I Pick?,

Making friends can be challenging, but it’s important to remember that everyone is different—and being different is not a bad thing! When deciding who you want to be friends with, the most important things to consider are:

  • Who makes you feel comfortable?
  • Who treats you with kindness and respect?
  • Are you proud to be friends with this person because they treat others with respect too?
  • Can you trust them?
  • Do your friendships help you become the best version of yourself?
  • Do you and this person share the same values? Such as how you view honesty, kindness, or treating others with respect.
  • Do they make an effort to understand how you feel?

True friends should be people who want the best for you, just as you want the best for them. Friendships that are positive and supportive will help you grow. Having friends who are not a positive influence on your life can make you become a version of yourself you don’t like.

When choosing friends, it’s important to avoid people who pressure you into unhealthy behaviors or make you feel bad about yourself. You should never feel like you have to change who you are to fit into a certain group. True friends will accept you for who you are! Friendship should feel easy and natural, not forced or stressful. It’s better to have a few true, supportive friends than many friends who don’t have your best interests at heart.

Also, don’t judge a book by its cover. Just because someone looks or acts a certain way on the outside, doesn’t mean you know the real them. Sometimes, the people who seem the most different might turn out to be the best of friends. Take time to get to know others on a deeper level, and you’ll discover who they really are.

Remember, choosing the right friends is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and encourage you to be the best version of yourself. True friends will be there for you during the good times and the tough ones. So, take your time, be yourself, and trust that the right friendships will come along.
