My Younger Brother Is Having a Hard Time. What Can I Do to Help?
TeenHealthFX understands how hard things can be right now, especially for teens and younger people. It is great that you want to try to help your brother. First, we think it is important to reach out to your parents and let them know that you think he is having a hard time. It is important that your parents know what is going on and be available to provide support and meet his medical needs, if necessary.
In the meantime, some things that can help are asking your brother what is going on and what he is having a hard time with. Sometimes younger kids just want to feel heard and t heir problems may not be as complex as you think. In addition, you can work on relaxation techniques as a family to help reduce stress and learn new skills. This can be having family game night, watching a feel-good movie together, going for a walk, yoga, simply exercising, or even meditating. Believe it or not, younger kids love learning new things and even if you mediate for 5 minutes can make a huge difference! Lastly, try to be encouraging and give positive praise.
As you know, kids and teens can be very hard on themselves. Celebrate accomplishments no matter how small and high five each other on trying your best. It doesn’t matter how many times you failed as long as you keep trying! We hope this helps!
