Don't Want To Tell Mom About Red Bump

Published: May 14, 2012
Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi, I'm 13 and I was taking a shower when I found a small sore red bump kind of near the inside the lip of my vagina (close to the top). I'm NOT sexually active!! Also I'm just starting to get public hair, could it have anything to do with that? Will it go away? It's not underneath my skin and it’s smaller than a pea. Please reply quickly because I don't want it to get bigger or something, and also I won't tell my mom because we don't have a good relationship (I will if it’s something horrendous but I doubt it is)

Dear Don't Want To Tell Mom About Red Bump,

You should tell your mom not because it is “something horrendous,” but because it is a medical issue that worries you. TeenHealthFX is sorry to hear that you don’t have a good relationship with your mother but she is responsible for your well being. That means if you are sick or have any medical concerns she would need to bring you to a medical professional for guidance.

Since your relationship with your mom is not good, TeenHealthFX is guessing that some of your reluctance in telling your mom is that you are afraid she will think that the issue is sexually related. Even if this were the case, if it is a medical problem that needs to be treated then it should not be avoided for any reason.
