Seeking Advice For My Sister-In-Law

Published: July 12, 2018
Dear TeenHealthFX,

Asking anonymously for my sister-in law, she stopped taking the pill 2 days in on her cycle. So she had her period from the 19th of June to the 23rd of june and started taking the pill after her period ended but decided to stop two days after. She then had a period from the 28th of June to the 4th of July she says she should be ovulating on the 12th tomorrow! But isn’t 100% as she stuffed around with the pill at the start. She had sex tonight but she feels yuck when he finishes inside her so with them TTC he did it on her stomach and directly after she fingered herself using what he had finished on her. She says it was no longer then a minute and 30 seconds from when he finished to when she put it inside herself, she says she fingered herself pretty ‘far up’ and Could feel something like a dome type thing but upside down. She just asking for answers or recommendations if anybody things this would even work.

Dear Seeking Advice For My Sister-In-Law,

To address all aspects of your question, TeenHealthFX will categorize accordingly:

Birth Control & Pregnancy:

  • TeenHealthFX would like to begin by stating that we recommend all sexually active teenagers use condoms every time they have sexual intercourse. Condoms are the only form of birth control that can protect from sexually transmitted infections, and should be used in addition to another form of birth control for best protection.
  • You stated that your sister-in-law is on the birth control pill. When the pill is not taken every day, it becomes less effective. Additionally, pregnancy occurs when semen gets in the vagina or on the vulva. Since your sister-in-law inserted semen into her vagina and was inconsistently taking her birth control pill, there is a possibility that she is pregnant.
  • TeenHealthFX cannot a proper pregnancy diagnosis online. The most accurate way to determine this is by conducting a pregnancy test. Your sister-in-law can purchase this test from her local drug store, or visit her doctor in order to have a blood test done by a medical professional. If she chooses a home drug test, she should keep in mind that the optimal time to conduct this test is the day after your period is due and during the first morning urine.

Vagina:

  • You stated that your sister-in-law, “could feel something like a dome type thing but upside down” inside of her vagina. While she may be referring to a normal functioning area of her female sexual anatomy,  TeenHealthFX suggests that she schedules an appointment with her gynecologist to undergo proper medical examination.
  • If she does not have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, she can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if she has concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. She can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
