Dear I Know Condoms Are Important, But Will They ID Me?,

TeenHealthFX is glad you asked this question! Your health teachers are right, condoms are extremely important. We recommend all teens use condoms on every sexual encounter to prevent sexually transmitted infections as well as pregnancy. Historically, condoms did have an age restriction, however, there are now laws set in place that a cashier cannot ask for your ID and they are not allowed to refuse the purchase of condoms due to age. Condoms can be bought at most pharmacies, supermarkets, retail stores as well as vending machines and even on-line. If you do choose to purchase them on-line, make sure it is a legitimate website. In addition, it may be possible to get free or reduced-price condoms at clinics near you such as planned parenthood.

There are a wide variety of condoms available for purchase. Kids Health helps explain that most condoms are made out of latex and there are other materials available if someone is allergic to latex. There is no right or wrong choice when it comes to picking a condom and it is purely personal preference. The most important thing is to ensure condoms are used properly and consistently to prevent the spread of STI’s and pregnancy.
