Dear TeenHealthFX,
I had no period for whole 2 months but last 2 days I spot a little blood on my underwear But there's not always blood when I wipe, can this be sign of pcos cause I see that I have signs of hirsutism too(I read on internet that could be connected, but I'm not sure) but before this I had my period let's say pretty normal I think (I'm 15 and have period little less than a year) but could be this cause of stress cause I am really stressed human being, I stress about everything

Dear Irregular Period- Do I Have PCOS?,

You stated that you have been experiencing an irregular period which includes occasional spotting. There are several reasons why irregular periods may occur, including yet not limited to:

  • Getting your period for the first time in your lifetime
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Stress
  • Beginning a new form of birth control
  • Using birth control irregularly (Ex: Missing or skipping the birth control pill)
  • PCOS
  • Pregnancy

You also stated that you are concerned you have PCOS, which can subsequently cause hirsutism. Being that TeenHealthFX cannot conduct a proper diagnosis over the internet, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with your physician and/or gynecologist. If necessary, he/she can discuss treatment options best suited to fit your needs. During your visit, you may also want to inquire about birth control options, since utilizing birth control can aid in regulating menstrual cycles.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
