Luteinizing Hormone
TeenHealth would like to commend you for wanting to learn more about a hormone that plays an important role in your reproductive health. Luteinizing hormone (LH) is released by the pituitary gland, a small, pea-sized gland located at the base of the brain. This sex hormone plays a different role in the bodies of males and females. LH is involved in the following bodily processes: puberty, menstruation, ovulation, progesterone release, testosterone and sperm production. Only your doctor can diagnosis whether there is a potential problem with your LH levels and the best course of treatment based on the results.
If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
