Is My Vagina Normal?

Published: December 22, 2020
Dear TeenHealthFX,
This is going to sound ridiculous, but I'm not sure how a normal healthy vagina is suppose to feel like inside, when I insert my fingers forward I come to a dip then it protrudes out I don't know if this is normal, idk if it's my cervics or what, I tried looking it up but I don't know the words I should use to look it up...

Dear Is My Vagina Normal?,

TeenHealthFX gets asked frequently what is normal and what is not especially when it comes genitals. We would first like to point out that there is no “normal.” Everyone is different and vaginas come in all sorts of shapes, colors, and sizes. The female reproductive system is protected by the pubic bone which may explain why you feel it protrude out in some spots.

If you are concerned or feel something is not right, we suggest reaching out a parent or other trusted adult and getting checked out. It is very important to get physical exams before a person becomes sexually active. A gynecologist is a doctor who specializes in the female reproductive system and can help. If you need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the  Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
