Dear On and Off Spotting ,

TeenHealthFX thanks you for asking your question. Unfortunately, we cannot diagnose a medical condition over the web. Any unexplained vaginal bleeding between periods is a reason to call your healthcare provider.  Abnormalities in your cycle can be due to many factors, stress, changes in weight, activity level and certain underlying medical conditions. Depending on where you live and how old you are, you may be allowed to ask your doctor about confidentiality laws that relate to sexual health. Some states have laws that require a doctor to keep some information confidential especially when it comes to sexuality, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy. Again, it is very important you go see a healthcare provider.

In addition, if you live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center. There may be a free clinic in your area. TeenHealthFX encourages teens to talk to their parents or a trusted adult about any health issue he or she may be dealing with.
