Help! I Just Started My Period
Unfortunately, TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose over the internet. However, we want to ensure that you are calculating your period correctly. You mention it is the 20th day of your period and we are wondering if you started day 1 on the first day of your period or the last. Many people think that your menstrual (period) cycle starts when it is over, however this is not accurate. Your cycle begins on the first day of your period even if it is spotting or very light and that counts as day 1.
You also mention that this is your first period. When a girl first starts her period, it can be very irregular. In fact, sometimes it can take years to regulate. We strongly suggest reaching out to a parent/guardian or school nurse who can also help you understand the menstrual cycle. In addition, we also suggest that your primary care doctor or another medical professional to get checked out to make sure nothing concerning is going on.
