Dear Bumps Under Penis,

You did not state whether or not you are sexually active. If you have never had sex before, the bumps you are referring to may be pimples, skin cysts, ingrown hairs or penile papules.

If you are sexually active, the bumps could be a result of a sexually transmitted infection. STDs are passed from one person to another during vaginal, anal and oral sex. Symptoms differ depending on the type of infection.

If you are sexually active, and/or the bumps begin to cause you pain, TeenHealthFX encourages you to schedule an appointment with your doctor. If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. A Planned Parenthood health center is a good option if you have concerns about cost or confidentiality issues. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.

During the days you must wait to visit your doctor, TeenHealthFX recommends that you do not rub or pop the bumps, as doing so may cause irritation.

TeenHealthFX recommends the following resources:
