Dear Is it a cyst or pimple?,

Hello Cyst or Pimple on shaft of penis?

We don’t diagnose; however, we can give you information to point you in the right direction to bring resolution to your concerns.

A cyst (cystic acne) is a type of inflammatory acne that causes painful, pus-filled pimples to form deep under the skin. Acne occurs when oil and dead skin cells clog skin pores.

With cystic acne, bacteria can also get into the pores, causing swelling or inflammation. Cystic acne is the most severe type of acne. Acne cysts are often painful and more likely to cause scarring.

They can appear anywhere on your body, including your genitals.

If the area is causing you pain, discomfort or concern it is best to get checked out by your doctor, specifically a dermatologist. A dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in all things related to your skin,

If you need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.

Thank you for your inquiry,
