Is There a Chance We Can Be Pregnant?

Published: June 24, 2024
Dear TeenHealth FX,
Hello, I and my partner are worried about a possible pregnancy. We are teenagers and approximately 10 days ago we had sex. Our concern is based on the fact that before putting on the condom,Stain my finger a little with precum and after putting the condom on, touch the tip of the condom a little with my finger. This was unintentional as I wanted to check if there was air in the tip. After finishing the act, we are quite scared by what happened. I would like to know if pregnancy is possible in my case. Is pregnancy due to precum possible? In our case can there be pregnancy? It also confuses us because we are not sure if I stained the entire condom, if I even got precum on it. I also don't remember if I stained my entire male reproductive system with it. We are scared. Sorry for this

Dear Is There a Chance We Can Be Pregnant?,

TeenHealth FX knows this must be a stressful time! It is possible to get pregnant with precum, but the chances are low. With the situation you described, it is unlikely to become pregnant.

The only way to know for sure is to take an at home pregnancy test after what would be a missed period. Remember, when it comes to tracking your period, the first day of the period counts as day 1. Then, approximately 28 days (about 4 weeks) later would be the next period. In addition, if your partner starts to experience symptoms of feeling very tired, nauseous, or hurtful cramps, it would also be a good idea to take an at home test to be sure.

For the future, to lower risk of becoming pregnant make sure to use a condom during every sexual encounter and make sure to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, that will make sure the sperm cells have died off from your hand.

If you still have concerns and need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
