Do I Have A Yeast Infection Or STD?

Published: November 06, 2019
Dear TeenHealthFX ,
Hi, So last month as in September, I noticed a bump right on the outside but very close to the opening of the vagina. On my left side but inbetween my Labia Majora & Labia Minora. It only itched. Then I got my period Sept. 9-13th & it went away. This past month, October, I got my period 0ct 6-10th. Around the 16/17 I noticed that it reappeared & on the right side an identical bump showed up right inbetween both Labia’s. Now, about 4 more bumps have appeared around the one on the right & has me worried that it could be Herpes. Syptoms: -Itchy; especially after being irritated -Doesn’t hurt to the touch -No burning -No blood or puss coming out -No scabbing/crusting -Raised like a pimple but not filled with anything. Resembles the same color of my skin. -No pain -Doesn’t hurt to go to the bathroom at all -I don’t notice that they’re there I have noticed that I have discharge thats more on the thicker side & does look like it could be a Yeast Infection. It also has an unpleasant odor. I believe to have a Yeast Infection or BV, but the bumps are having me worried because I have no clue what they could be. I’m not able to get it checked out today like I planned or this week because I just started my period for November today. However, I plan on going once I don’t have it anymore. Any feedback helps.

Dear Do I Have A Yeast Infection Or STD? ,

TeenHealthFX is sorry to hear of your current situation. Unfortunately, we cannot diagnose over the internet. We recommend you tell a parent/guardian and be seen by a medical professional as soon as your period is over. A doctor will be able to provide an exam, check your symptoms, and test you for sexually transmitted infections. Once the doctor provides a diagnosis, he or she can prescribe the appropriate treatment for your illness.

We would also like to mention the importance of practicing safe sex. TeenHealthFX encourages all teens to use condoms every time they engage in any type of sexual activity. Condoms are only 98% in preventing the transmission of sexually transmitted infections when used correctly and on every sexual encounter.

If you need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
