Dear Could My Boyfriend Have Herpes? Or Is It Something Else?,

Unfortunately, TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose over the internet.  Since you mention herpes, we thought some information about this virus would be helpful.  There are eight different herpes viruses that can appear anywhere on the human body.  Genital Herpes is the type that usually occurs on the genital area and/or mouth area as a result of mouth to genital contact with someone who is infected and is considered sexually transmitted. Other types are still technically herpes but do not require sexual contact to occur.

We recommend that your boyfriend talk to a parent or trusted adult and make an appointment with his primary care doctor or a dermatologist who specializes in all types skin conditions.

If you need help finding a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist.
