Dear Is It Not A Good Workout Routine To Just Do The Elliptical At The Gym?,
When I go to the gym I like to just do the eliptical machine, but my friend says it would be better for me to do different things instead of doing the same thing every time. Is this true?

There are definitely physical benefits to mixing up your workout routine. If all a person does is just take a spinning class, run, or workout on the elliptical machine, there are certain muscle groups that will not get targeted. One way around this is to do different types of cardio – to alternate between running, the elliptical machine, and swimming, for example. Another way to work more of the different muscle groups and to burn more calories is to do strength exercises in the middle of your cardio routine. For example, one day you could do squats and push-ups in the middle of your elliptical work-out. Another day you could do the plank and jumping jacks in the middle of a run.

If you have questions about what exercises are appropriate for a growing teen body, check with your doctor or a reputable trainer who has experience working with kids and teens. And whatever you do, make sure that you pick exercises that will be something you enjoy and that you are not over-exercising or over-exerting yourself in any way that could harm your body.
